Roberta Piket Trio

“Roberta Piket’s trio found precisely the right mix of fire and restraint”-All About Jazz New York (live concert review)

Roberta’s piano trio, featuring sensitive and swinging drummer Billy Mintz, sets a new standard in subtle yet swinging trio interaction. For three several years the trio has delighted audiences along the West coast of the US from San Diego to Seattle during their annual fall tour. They have also toured Spain twice, performing at both the 2006 and 2007 Madrid Jazz Festivals.

In addition to performing originals by Billy and Roberta, whose very different writing styles serve as a complement to one another, the trio plays rarely performed compositions by Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock and several underplayed standards from the popular American songbook. The music ranges from lyrical and swinging to free-wheeling and adventurous. Every performance is driven by a rare combination of spontaneous creativity and disciplined focus that mesmerizes audiences.

Thirteenth Note Records is pleased to announce the spring 2011 release of Roberta’s latest CD, Sides, Colors. Sides, Colors reveals previously hidden aspects of Roberta’s talent. It features her not only in the role of pianist and composer, but as organist, orchestrator and, on one memorable standard, vocalist.
